South Korea’s Simon Seungmin Lee completed a 14-stroke victory in the All Abilities category at the ISPS HANDA Australian Open to again show the power of pushing limits in sport.
For Lee, golf has been much more than striking a pure putt or a pinpoint iron shot.
His focus on golf since a young age has helped his social skills and his own self belief in aiming high.
Lee’s two-over-par 74 in Saturday’s closing round at Melbourne’s Kingston Heath Golf Club left him at a four-under total after earlier rounds of 71 and 67.
Golf has helped him redefine his life after being diagnosed with a form of autism and development disability at three years of age.
England’s 2022 champion Kipp Popert fell back with a closing 82 and shared second spot at 10-over with Australian Wayne Perske (76).
Lee’s delight was obvious with a broad smile and raised hands when he sank his final putt.
“I feel so good. I feel like, yeah, now I feel like I go way higher up,” Lee said at Kingston Heath today.
“I kept thinking in my mind, ‘I can do it, I can do it, I can do it’.”
